Dear all,
Apologies for writing in English. I'm helping a client with their style guide in Japanese.
Their old style guide had a recommendation:
• Add a Cho-on for 2 or less Katakana, e.g.: カー(Car), カバー(Cover) • Do not add a Cho-on for 3 or more Katakana, e.g.: エレベーター(Elevator) becomes 「エレベータ」
But the client reviewer suggested more generous usage of Cho-on, ie to change the recommendation that Cho-on should always be used, even for longer words. They cite recent Microsoft style guides, where the long form is more common nowadays.
