And I think it is becasue every time we merge, it has to change the segment numbering and if there are say 10,000 segments, it may take a bit. Splitting the files may make this more workable Eileen | | | Angela Malik United Kingdom Local time: 22:14 German to English + ... It IS reproducible | Nov 26, 2015 |
It freezes for me with big files too, but with the small files, at least, I have worked out the pattern for at least 90% of the times when Studio freezes during merge/split attempts. If there is already some text in the segment immediately before the segments you want to merge/split, it does not freeze. In my case, at least, and on both of my computers, it will usually complete the action without freezing. It pretty much freezes all the time if I attempt to merge/split segments that... In my case, at least, and on both of my computers, it will usually complete the action without freezing. It pretty much freezes all the time if I attempt to merge/split segments that do not have text immediately before them. For example, if I want to merge segments 9 and 10, there must be text at least in draft form in segment 8. Likewise, if I want to split segment 9, there must be text at least in draft form in segment 8. In files where segmentation has not been ideal and there are lots of repetitions, I like to "prep" the file for the reps by merging/splitting segments before starting to translate. At the moment I achieve this by typing rubbish into (and NOT confirming) the segments immediately before the ones I want to actually merge/split. ▲ Collapse | | | Having same issues | Dec 8, 2015 |
Have anyone found any solution on this particular issues? it has been bugging me especially when i am working on big projects. However, it happens in the small files too. | |

If it still fails please confirm that you have added the TM before you open the file? But if you can send me your TM so I can test with whatever you have set up you can send it to here: [email protected] Regards Paul SDL Community Support | | | Same here, too | Jan 28, 2016 |
Same here: Merging often freezes Studio. Just happened. Large file, the 2 segments to be merged were untranslated, but once activated for merging filled with a Fuzzy Match by Studio. I can not tell how to be reproduce reliably though. I have developed the habit of saving the file before merging, which I consider a kind of "fragile" command. Annoying from time to time, but a bug I have gotten used to. Just like the one that you can not enter a Termbase macth twice in a target segment... See more Same here: Merging often freezes Studio. David Terhart wrote: I can not tell how to be reproduce reliably though. 1. Split a segment 2. Clear target (to remove the “Draft” status) 3. Split another segment To avoid Studio freezing, I skip step 2 as long as I need to split more segments. When I'm done, I save the file, close it, and reopen it. Then I can apply step 2 to the “Draft” segments. Yeah, it's a real pain, but it's worst when I forget this procedure… I know the bug was still active in the first release of Studio 2015. Anybody can confirm it's already solved in Studio 2015? Maybe the merging bug has a similar pattern and a colleage can share how to repro it (in order to avoid it). ... As a former software localization specialist for several software companies (including Intel), the Options and Project Settings menu options are counterintuitive, some are poorly named and the whole exercise of fishing for the right feature is mindboggling and unproductive. I am working on a 1500-word rush project on a SDL Trados project file. My program froze when I tried to merge two segments. I had to kill the program and reopen it. Then I tried the merge operation and it worked. For such programming error, we users shouldn't have to wait for the next version of the program. So, this program does not increase my productivity. ▲ Collapse | | | Pages in topic: < [1 2] | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » 2014: often hangs when I merge segments, have to kill TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
