Many fields require knowledge of a specialised vocabulary to ensure that the reader will understand the translated text. Ever try to follow a manual badly translated from Chinese to English or vice versa? You get the picture. Texts dealing with engineering, medicine or computer software need translators with specialist knowledge in engineering, medicine or computer software. And the same goes for every area of specialisation.
At 101translations, we understand the importance of the accuracy of technical or specialised texts. If you need a translator with a background in your field, just let us know. We are proud to be able to draw on the talents of a large pool of highly qualified professional translators. In the (very) unlikely chance of not having the right translator for your job, we won't take it on. The quality of our work and our customers' satisfaction is our number one priority.
If you are looking for translation in a technical or specialised field, get in touch and tell us about your needs. We will be delighted to provide you with a sample of our work.
Translating creative writing, whether prose or poetry, requires a very special set of skills. The translator must be able not only to translate the literal meaning of the words with accuracy and precision, but also retain the validity of metaphors, recreate verse and parsing and capture the spirit of the original text. Hardly surprising, then, that some of the world's great translators enjoy almost as much renown as the authors of the texts they translate!
We at 101translations understand the importance of translating your work so that your foreign language readers will understand more than just the words. The message, tone and subtleties of your work will not be passed over. To ensure that you will be delighted with the quality of your translation, we will only offer you the services of professional translators with ample experience of working in this field.
Translators have something in common with psychologists, photo developers, typesetters – and even priests. Sometimes, they are asked to deal with business or personal material of a deeply confidential nature.
You need to know that you can trust your translator or translators not to show or discuss your private business with anybody.
When working with confidential translations, we suggest that you ask us to provide you with a non-disclosure agreement (please click here to see a sample agreement). If you would prefer to provide your own agreement or have your legal advisor suggest changes to ours, that's just fine. Our priority is your confidence and security, and we ensure that you receive a non-disclosure agreement signed both by our directorship and by the translator or translators who will deal with your material.
A signed non-disclosure agreement is a legally binding document. By providing you with one we indicate that we understand that breaching its terms is not just unethical – it is also illegal. We take your privacy as seriously as we take the quality of your translations.
Our approach to software translation involves five steps:
1. Contextualisation: Together with the customer, we understand what the software does, to whom it is directed, what are its major functions and the context in which it is used.
2. Text preparation: On the basis of this knowledge, we associate the strings and text to translate with the appropriate contextual information for the translators.
3. Translation: qualified specialised translators, who only work into their native language, prepare the translated text - being particularly careful about the placement of variables within the strings.
4. Validation: Translations are reviewed by our Quality Assurance team to ensure that all the issues were understood and incorporated.
5. Testing: together with the customer we see the new software at work and make the necessary corrections before the product is released.
We can translate text contained in any type of programming language. Because we base our approach on understanding and not on a particular software tool, we can handle any type of special project - as long as there are recognisable words!.
Web translation is a mixture of both traditional translation and software localisation. While static text needs to be translated, dynamic content needs to be localised like software.
At 101translations we can handle static and dynamic web content based on HTML, DHTML, XML, PERL, PHP... almost anything!
What is more important, we base our ability on the actual knowledge of those programming languages, not just on some third-party WYSIWYG editor.
Thanks to our extensive knowledge of Web standards (we've been using the Internet since 1989!) we are able to provide translations into non-Western languages that are perfectly compatible with all browsers and all server systems. We have successfully localised highly dynamic web sites into Chinese or Farsi, Russian and other languages.
Did you know that...
* ... Arabic and Hebrew are not only written right to left, but lay out from right to left, so that the first page is the one with the spine on the right?
* ... Chinese and Japanese have very different rules than Western languages when it comes to deciding where you can break a line of text?
* ... Some languages of the former Soviet Union can be written in Latin, Cyrillic, or Arabic script, and that using one particular script will have important social and political connotations?
You had your brochures formatted by a top-notch design firm, and the text has been translated (possibly by us). But how do you get that multilingual text into the brochure template, and how do you ensure that all your design investment does not go wasted? And who will proofread all your foreign-language brochure before it's printed?
How can we help?
At 101translations we understand the special requirements and hurdles of layout and design into various languages:
* We can ensure that the font you intend to use for your brochure has the special characters required by the relevant languages, and if not, we can suggest alternatives.
* We can source the best Asian, Arabic, or Devanagari (Indian) fonts to match the Roman design of your brochure.
* We can deliver our translations formatted to match your design, directly in your preferred DTP format (Quark Xpress, Adobe InDesign, PageMaker, FrameMaker, MS Publisher), on both Windows and Mac systems.
* We can deliver the formatted translations as PDF files, or as vectorial files (EPS) with the fonts already converted to outlines, so you don't have to worry about fonts at all.
A sworn translation is a legal document translated into a language such that it is still accepted as a legal document in translation. For example, an individual seeking residency in a new country will probably have to supply sworn translations of all their documents of identification; birth and marriage certificates, vaccination certificates, passport, etc. A sworn translation gives a translated document the same legal validity of the original.
Of course, legal systems differ from one country to another. However, there are two basic standards for sworn translations:
In "Common law" countries (principally the United Kingdom, most of the USA, Ireland, and some former British colonies), the translator must have a formal qualification in translation and be able to affirm and prove this in writing. In the case of "Civil law" countries (Continental Europe and much of the rest of the world), the translator must not only be qualified but also registered in the relevant country or court as a sworn translator.
You don't need to post us your documents for us to provide a sworn translation. A good-quality scan of the documents will be enough.e
The optimum time frame in days for us to complete a translation can be expressed as (W / 1500) + 1, that is, one weekday for each 1,500 words, plus one.
We strive to keep our prices to the customer at the lower end of the industry standards.
To do this, we have reduced our overheads to the minimum, so we can pay translators a high percentage of what we charge our customers.
This means hiring better translators, who will work faster for you, while you spend less than with your traditional "high street" agency.
That is why we have no plush office downtown, no receptionists, and no glossy brochures. Our customers buy smart and save without compromising on quality.
For general translation, our prices are based on the number of words in the source document. However every job is priced individually, so the table below should only act as a general guide. Please ask for a free quote for your specific project.
