Source text - Italian Ischia è la più grande isola del golfo di Napoli, con una popolazione di cinquantaduemila abitanti su una superficie 46 chilometri quadrati.
Famosa sin dai tempi della Magna Grecia, i primi insediamenti risalgono alletà del Bronzo. Varî sono stati i nomi attribuiti, tra cui Inarime e Pithecusa (isola delle scimmie).
In passato e anche oggi è una famosa stazione turistica per le sue acque termali, caratterizzate da numerose proprietà curative. Numerose sono le sorgenti sparse per l'isola tra cui si ricordano l'Olmitello, Nitrodi e Sorgeto. A fianco a queste sorgenti vanno ricordati i parchi termali, i più famosi sono il Castiglione, i Giardini Afrodite e i Giardini Poseidon.
Dal punto di vista artistico, bisogna ricordare il castello Aragonese, nel borgo di Ischia Ponte, rocca naturale di trachite, alta 113 metri dal livello del mare, separata dall'isola da un lungo ponte in pietra.
Di particolare importanza sono il Museo di Villa Arbusto, dove sono esposti numerosi reperti storici risalenti alla colonizzazione greca e ai primi insediamenti.
Degno di nota sono la cattedrale dell'Assunta risalente al XVI secolo e diverse altre chiese tra cui Santa Maria del Soccorso a Forìo e la collegiata dello Spirito Santo.
Dal punto di vista naturalistico dobbiamo ricordare la baia di Sorgeto, il villaggio di Sant'Angelo entrambi sul versante meridionale dell'isola e la cima del monte Epomeo (a 789 metri dal livello del mare dal quale è possibile, durante giornate di tempo asciutto, vedere la costa del Lazio oltre a tutto il golfo di Napoli.
Translation - English Ischia is the largest island in the gulf of Naples with a population of fifty-two thousand people on an area of 46 square kilometres.
Famous since the Magna Grecia times, the first settlements go back to the Bronze age. It was given several names, such as Inarime and Pithecusa (island of the apes).
In the past and still nowadays, it is a famous tourist resort for its mineral waters, characterised by many healing properties. There are several water springs, among which we should remember Olmitello, Nitrodi and Sorgeto. Besides these water springs, one must remember the thermal parks, the most famous of which there are Castiglione, Giardini Afrodite and Giardini Poseidon.
On the artistic point of view, we should remember in the village of Ischia Ponte, the Aragonese castle, which is a trachyte natural rock, the highest point is 113 metres above sea level, separated from the main island through a long stone bridge.
Particularly important are the Villa Arbusto museum, where numerous artifacts going back to the Greek colonization and to the first settlements are on display.
Worthy of note are the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, dating to the sixteenth century and several other churches, among which Santa Maria del Soccorso in Forìo and the collegiate church of the Spirito Santo.
From the natural point of view, we should remember the bay of Sorgeto and the village of Sant'Angelo, both on the southern side of the island and the top of Mount Epomeo, standing at 789 metres above see level from which, in days with low humidity, it is possible to see the coast of Latium besides the entire gulf of Naples.
