Code of Conduct

Last updated: September 7, 2026

1. Who this applies to

This Code of Conduct applies to every interpreter who takes assignments through Remoto and to every client, organization and guest who books them. It is the document the Independent Contractor Agreement refers to, and it forms part of the Terms of Service. Where this Code and the Terms overlap, the Terms prevail.

2. Professional standards

  • Interpret completely and accurately, without adding, omitting or editorialising.
  • Represent your languages, specialisations and credentials truthfully on your profile.
  • Be punctual and prepared for scheduled sessions, and keep your availability status accurate.
  • Work from a quiet, neutral, distraction-free environment with reliable audio, video and connectivity.
  • Stay impartial: disclose conflicts of interest and decline assignments where one exists.
  • Treat everyone on the call with courtesy, whatever the subject matter or the pressure of the moment.

3. Confidentiality and privacy

Everything said in a session is confidential. Do not record, screenshot, share or discuss session content outside the session, and do not identify the people you interpreted for. Healthcare sessions are additionally governed by the HIPAA acknowledgement you signed.

The same protection covers personal details. Do not ask participants for, or hold on to, phone numbers, email addresses or other contact information beyond what the session itself requires.

4. Keep it on Remoto

Remoto introduces you to clients and handles the booking, the call, the payment, the receipts, backup coverage and disputes. In return, Section 6.1 of the Terms asks both sides to keep the relationship on the platform: for twelve months after your last session together, every booking, message and payment with a client you met through Remoto goes through Remoto.

In practice this means:

  • Do not share or ask for personal email addresses, phone numbers, WhatsApp, LinkedIn or similar contact details in order to continue the work elsewhere.
  • Do not accept or offer payment outside Remoto for work that started here, in any form.
  • Do not move a Remoto client to another platform, agency or private arrangement.
  • Clients agree to exactly the same rules, so you are never expected to say yes to a request that breaks them.

This applies equally to clients: the Terms bind both parties, and a client who asks an interpreter to go off-platform is in breach as much as an interpreter who agrees.

5. When a client asks you to work off-platform

It happens, and it is usually a compliment. Decline warmly and point them back to your profile. Something like:

“I’d love to keep working with you. Please book me through my Remoto profile; it keeps the receipts, backup coverage and payment protection in place for both of us, and it takes two clicks.”

Then let us know. Reporting a request never counts against you, and it helps us protect your future bookings with that client.

6. What happens if the Code is broken

Breaches are reviewed by the Remoto Support Team. Depending on the severity, the outcome can be a warning, a pause on a language pair, suspension of the account pending review, or permanent removal from the platform. Off-platform arrangements are treated as serious: the interpreter’s account is suspended while the case is reviewed, and the client is contacted.

If you believe an action was taken in error, reply to the notice you received and the support team will take your account of events into consideration.

7. Questions

Anything unclear? Email [email protected] or open a ticket from your dashboard. We would rather answer a question than review a breach.
