Does "al-mar" mean something in Arabic?

I'm looking for a translation of this term either in English or French. It appears in a French text, and we can't seem to identify its meaning or origin anywhere. It may or may not refer to a proper noun.

I suppose Kudoz would have been a more appropriate place to ask this question. In any case, more context would help identify what it means in your text, as there are several possibilities. One of them is "passer-by".
