The focus for my investment over the next 12 months will be in relation to training and memberships. I have a strong commitment to undertaking a regular and substantial programme of professional CPD on an ongoing basis, so this is going to account for the bulk of my expenditure in the coming months. See more The focus for my investment over the next 12 months will be in relation to training and memberships. I have a strong commitment to undertaking a regular and substantial programme of professional CPD on an ongoing basis, so this is going to account for the bulk of my expenditure in the coming months. Renewing Memberships of professional associations and directories (proz included) is a staple feature of my expenditure, since the fall due for renewal annually and so this is a cost that can't be avoided regardless of what other investment plans I may have. I don't have any specific plans to invest in marketing at this stage, but will keep that under review that during the course of next year. In any event, I regard my membership of proz (and other directories) is incorporating an element of marketing, since several of my clients have found me through my online profile(s). I have already invested in upgrading to SDL Trados 2011 and don't have any further plans to invest in hardware or software over the next year. ▲ Collapse | | | Henny Willis United States Local time: 16:59 English to Indonesian + ... I have no idea. After falling off my bike at the weekend and landing on my head, I have realised I might just as easily get run over by a bus tomorrow, so am no longer thinking that far ahead. Maybe some red-and-white clad, twinkly-eyed bearded old gent will bring me something though, you never know....

I promise I will update my website more often and learn to use all my software better. There will be a mince pie* for you, of course, but the reindeer can help themselves to carrots next door, as they don't use the bent ones. Thank you! From Alison * A bit tricky finding all the ingredients round here, so I'm rather choosy about who gets them. @Neil: hope you recover soon and that there's no lasting damage! ▲ Collapse | | | Three months... | Nov 29, 2011 |

Proz-membership has recently been renewed, but as every year I will buy a new computor. I use them SO much that I buy a new one each year. Then I plan to take part in some trainings and I MIGHT invest in some other software solution for instant back-up than the one I have right now. I have just renewed my support-agreement with SDL so that includes the 2011-version of Trados, so that saves some money. I ... I just invested in a smart-phone in order to open attachments to mails and log on to my clients servers and download stuff and see what they would like me to do, so that I am online even if I have gone to the post office, am in the shop, walking the dog or taking a long lunch - really great investment by the way! Other than that, I think that I am pretty much all set for 2012! Bring it on! ▲ Collapse

First of all I will invest in Hardware, software maybe, but investing in training ist an every day job. Because of the actual projects I'm working on and upcoming projects I don't think that I invest in marketing and the only membership I would invest in is proz.com. And thats only because I like the site. | | | Anthony Baldwin United States Local time: 17:59 Portuguese to English + ...
I consider my membership in proz.com to be both, marketing AND professional membership. My software costs $0.00 (yes, you can run a translation business with 100% free/open source software, although I do sometimes donate to projects I use regularly, like OmegaT). My current kit was purchased just under a year ago, now, so I'm not likely to purchase new hardware for another 2 to 4 years (my software is very efficient, doesn't require frequent hardware upgrades). ...
