Dear colleagues,

Under the motto “Professionalisation and interoperability in the translation industry”, this trilingual conference will take place from October 19-20, 2013 in the gorgeous Freiburg im Breisgau, capital of the Black Forest, at the heart of the "Dreiländereck" where German, Switzerland and France meet.

The event will feature presentations in English, German and French from top-notch international speakers and experts, including Jost Zetzsche, Paul Filkin, Stefan Gentz, Yves Champollion and many more − among them MT and CAT experts from all over Europe.

The conference will take place in one of Freiburg's jewels: the Historisches Kaufhaus (“Historical Merchants’ Hall”), from the 16th century, right at the heart of the city's historical centre.

The event is supported by following professional associations for now (more might join): BDÜ, ITI, DVÜD and ASTTI. Members of these associations are entitled to a discount on their registration at the event.

Presidents and Vice-Presidents of national translators' associations will all seat at a table during the conference for an "Associations Roundtable" where they will debate and exchange on the trends and future of our profession and the language industry.

All information, list of speakers and full programme under http://trikonf.com

We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful Freiburg in October!

Kind regards,
Anne

Thank you for the announcement Jul 3, 2013

Hi Anne,

First of all, thank you very much for the announcement. I'm seriously considering attending. (I've just been to Freiburg a couple of days ago during my holiday and can vouch for the beauty of this city!)

Regarding the supporting associations, I'd say that the French SFT should definitely be part of it. What do you think?

Best regards,
Steffen

Thanks Steffen! Jul 3, 2013

Thanks Steffen for the nice words, it would be great indeed to see you in Freiburg!

As for the SFT, I could not agree more, I would really love to have them there - they were among the 3 first associations we invited, along with the Germans and the Swiss (the original idea was to have the associations of the 3 countries, because of the "Tri-national" concept) but they declined supporting the event officially - we therefore decided to extend the invitation to other European associati

How could they? Jul 3, 2013

... which leaves me speechless - how on earth could they decline to support this event (unlike the other associations)?

Why decline? Jul 4, 2013

Maybe because of the presence of the so-called ''MT experts''?

This is in no way directed at you, Anne, we love you, but I would stay away from
anything connected with MT as well...

Registration now open for Jost Zetzsche's workshop Jul 15, 2013

Dear colleagues,

As announced, the day before the conference itself (Friday the 18th) will be a Workshop Day. 3 workshops will be organized (2 in English, 1 in German). Still working on the other 2 but registration for Jost Zetzsche's workshop "Keeping Up with Translation Technology: Equipping Yourself with the Tools for Success" is now open.

Here's the abstract:

In the last two or three years, the speed of change in the translation technology field has reached warp speed. This presentation will guide you through the vast universe of possibilities and help you make decisions on what to use and what to leave behind for your professional development and future.

Jost will draw from the materials he has collected during the last 10 years as a chronicler of translation technology to cover everything from small utilities that are geared toward just one specific translation-related task to the much larger translation environment tools (CAT tools). He will also take a look at what kind of role machine translation can play in a professional translation environment.

This fun-filled and fast-paced workshop is geared toward all translator skill levels.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your interest. TriKonf 2015 will take place 9-11 October 2015, in Freiburg again - we do not have speakers or a programme yet as there is still time an we are busy organizing a specialized conference for medical translators this year, but for planning purposes at this stage, let's say that the registration price may be roughly between 300 and 400 €.

Feel free to follow the conference blog on the conference website: www.trikonf.com

Cheers,
Anne
