Learn to build your own terminology
The workshop on terminology for I &T professionals is aimed at highlighting different aspects of terminology use and is designed in a way to cater for both translators and interpreters.

This two-hour workshop consists of two sessions:
The terminology for translators session will look at the importance of terminology management for consistency in translation and use of terminology as a tool for speeding up translation process. It will also discuss linguistic resources required for specialized translations and how to search for additional resources on the internet. Furthermore, the presenter is going to have a look at glossaries, CAT-tools and other means of terminology storage.

The terminology for interpreters part of the presentation discusses the need for continual improvement with regards to expanding the medical/legal terminology in order to be a good interpreter..
All examples are based on personal experience and include discussions of real life situations in interpreting settings.
The presenter will also look at a proposed new Model for Interpreters recently recommended by NAATI.

About the Presenters:
Vanda Kotikova Nissen, PhD, is a linguist, translator and teacher of English and Russian with over 12 years of
experience. Vanda is also working with Danish, Swedish and Polish. She is the author of more than 20 articles and books
on language and translation.
Jo Sieradzki is an interpreter of English and Polish with over 7 years of experience. Jo specializes in health care and
legal interpreting and has a keen interest in intercultural communication.
