TRANSLATION IN THE DIGITAL AGE: Pedagogy and Current Practices London Metropolitan University, Thursday 17 July 2014 - Henry Thomas Room (Holloway Road Campus, London N7 8DB - UK)
The aim of this symposium is to explore the use of digital technology in translator training and current IT requirements in the translation industry. The focus is put on how to best maximise student employability by keeping teaching syllabuses in line with the changing roles of the translation profession.
Confirmed speakers are: Professor Anthony Pym, Dr Minako O’Hagan, Reinhard Schäler and Jost Zetzsche.
The symposium will explore the pedagogical and professional implications of using translation technology and it will examine what is happening in academia and in the market today. It will also examine the impact of the digital age on teaching methods, curriculum and syllabus design, as a result of the requirements of the translation industry. Besides the academic aspect, the symposium will bring together practitioners from international organisations (DGT, EU) to discuss the impact of translation technology (including Audiovisual Translation tools) on the profession.
Major software companies will also be invited to discuss the latest developments in this field.
