Spanish term

Mayores sin reparos

Spanish to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
This is a title of a section of a Film Festival, apart from that I don't know what type of films might be included

Other sections are more straightforward - Chioldren's film, short film etc

The expression seems to be in some sort of common parlance (tho my wife has never heard it), there a Spanish TV prog of the same title

plenty here for example

Any ideas? Sorry I cant get any more context, for the moment at least

Sp-EnTranslator Jul 30, 2008:
psicutrinius ha despejado el acertijo: Si nos apegamos a la lista de clasificacion de la "Motion Picture Association of America", esto correspondieria con la calificacion NC-17.

An NC-17 rated motion picture
Terry Burgess Jul 30, 2008:
To psicutrinius: Dear colleague, I take my hat off to you! A "Restricted Rating" [R] seems the perfect answer to William's question. Being only a youngster, myself, I'll have to take your iron-clad word on the movie pecking order:-)) Muchos saludos:-))

Oldies but goldies

Se refiere a personas que son de avanzada edad, pero no tienen complejos (por ejemplo se van a bailar, llevan ropa juvenil...)

"No tener reparo" quiere decir "no tener vergüenza", "no tener complejos"

A lo mejor a alguien se le ocurre una equivalencia que conserve mejor el sentido de atrevimiento, descaro, falta de vergüenza :-)

Maybe you can make up another rhyme "Oldies without worries" or something of the kind :-D

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "As I had to adapt the title of the category I used Lisa Mac's Golden Oldies - thanks to everyone, ESPECIALLY Pscicu's fascinating contribution!"

Once upon a time, Spain's censorship was very tight -and downright prudish. Initially, even kisses were forbidden: You saw the lead characters very passionately rising towards each other and the next second they were sitting down very relaxed. That (along with dubbing) led to very curious situations, where (Mogambo, for instance), the fact that Grace Kelly's character was becoming the lover of Clark Gable's just in front of her husband, the dubbing converted Clark Gable in her brother, thus (because there was "sin" undeniably between them) to avoid an adultery they got an INCESTUOUS adultery...

Classification for spectators was:
1 "Todos los públicos"
2 "hasta 14 años"
3: "Mayores y niños acompañados"
3R: "Mayores, con reparos"
4: "Gravemente peligrosa"

007 against doctor NO got a 3R rating
Zorba the Greek got a 4

The "mayores sin reparos" is thus a reaction to that, once the grip loosened
Peer comment(s):

Woolf (Taylor-Burt
