English term
e-business
English to Portuguese
Other
IT (Information Technology)
How do translators handle the "e-" prefix, when it comes to translating from English into Latin languages such as Portuguese, Spanish, French?
In a scholarly text (for a Brazilian education journal) on ICT literacy, I came across "e-business", "e-government", "e-competencies", and, the hardest one, "e-awareness". The author discusses new requirements for the e-education of new generations; specifically, he tries to establish and define the necessary "e-competencies". I've found a useful European multilingual glossary on the subject at EU's Cedefop (European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training): .
However, it doesn't deal with any of these terms; also, being an European glossary, Portuguese entries are those used in Portugal, which are often different from Brazilian Portuguese (for instance, the very word "literacy" in Portugal is "literacia", whilst in Brazil the terms "alfabetização" or "letramento" are used).
So far I could only consider "competências informáticas" for "e-competencies". Thanks in advance

comércio eletrônico
O prefixo "e" nesses termos corresponde a eletrônico e no Brasil usamos comércio eletrônico em vez de negócio eletrônico.
Note from asker:
Thanks for the suggestions for the other terms too |
