Spanish term

CVe

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals bioequivalence
In a clinical trial protocol from Spain for translation to British English

Given as a percentage in all cases "CVe (%)" in data from various previous trials quoted for "area under the curve", "max. concentration", "time to max. concentration", etc. where these previous trials studied bioavailability, safety and tolerance, proportionality, etc. So each trial has an absolute figure (e.g. a figure quoted for AUC in ng*h/ml of 67.4 in the bioavailability trial) and a CVe (%) figure (72 in the same case).

Discussion

Althea Draper Nov 25, 2020:
@ Asker I've looked at this a wee bit further and I think Taña is correct that CVe = 'coeficiente de variación experimental' in some Spanish language academic papers, but the only references to 'coefficient of experimental variation' in English that I can find are translations into English of academic papers from Central and Southern America. I can't find any original English works with the 'experimental' part in the phrase. When I look at the equations that CVe refers to in these papers, it looks like what is called 'coefficient of variation' (or CV) in English. (My 'estimated coefficient of variation' works when the variation is calculated from a sample of the whole data.) So, if the data is based on the standard deviation of all the data, then it's 'coefficient of variation' (leave out experimental) and if it's based on the standard deviation of a sample of the data then it's 'estimated coefficient of variation'.

For an example, look at page 61 and Ecuación 7 on page 43 of http://repositorio.uchile.cl/bitstream/handle/2250/168732/Na...

agree Chema Nieto Castañón : Lo he visto también como experimental variation coefficient, pero sí, diría que el original puede referirse al coeficiente de variación experimental (CVe).

Gracias Chema.

Thanks.
neutral Althea Draper : See discussion. You may want to drop the 'experimental' bit as (from what I can see) this only appears in translated texts not texts originally in English.

Thank you.

estimated coefficient of variation

Spanish - CVe = coeficiente de variación estimado

English - estimated CV = estimated coefficient of variation

The estimation is used when only a sample of the population (whole set of data) is available.

"La forma de medir el error muestral se hace a través del coeficiente de variación estimado (cve), el cual mide la magnitud de la variabilidad de la distribución muestral del estimador, es decir, es el indicador del grado de aproximación ... o, en otras palabras, se define como la variación porcentual del error estándar con respecto a su estimación, es decir es el cociente entre el error estándar del estimador y el estimador multiplicado por 100.
