This is from a text about an Argentine artist from the mid-20 century who work with unconventional materials, I think it might be needlepoint, but I am not sure:
En 1971, luego del fallecimiento de su madre, vuelve a las imágenes del álbum y esta vez emplea el collage. Para estos trabajos solicitó material de época a los miembros de la familia. Los soportes de las obras son en ocasiones las fundas de almohadas o almohadones con puntillas, bordados, calados y vainillados realizados por las manos de su madre o de su abuela.

Drawn thread work (n), hemstitch (v)
I agree with the colleagues above. A specific type of vainilla used in the edges of sheets and tableclothes was called "hemstitch". you might use drawn thread work, which was used for any par of a piece, for "calados", and "hemstitched" for "vainillados" (in the hems of the pieces).
On a side note, I can do both :)

: for a stylistic fit balanced with 'vainallados realizados' and as per my own Spanish abuela linense: hemstitches or hemstitiching (woven) https://www.wordreference.com/es/translation.asp?tranword=he...

What is Drawn thread embroidery?
Drawn thread embroidery is a counted thread openwork embroidery technique in which thread (either weft or warp) is removed from the fabric and decorative stitches and knots are formed over the remaining thread in a pattern. The work is traditionally done white on white (white fabric and white thread). The holes (open spaces) made by the pulled thread form a part of the design.

Drawn thread work is one of the earliest forms of open work embroidery, and has been worked throughout Europe. Originally it was often used for ecclesiastical items and to ornament shrouds.[1] It is a form of counted-thread embroidery based on removing threads from the warp and/or the weft of a piece of even-weave fabric. The remaining threads are grouped or bundled together into a variety of patterns. The more elaborate styles of drawn thread work use a variety of other stitches and techniques, but the drawn thread parts are their most distinctive element. It is also grouped with whitework embroidery because it was traditionally done in white thread on white fabric and is often combined with other whitework techniques.

Drawn thread is a form of whitework where threads (normally either warp or weft but occasionally both) are withdrawn (pulled out) from the fabric and the edges secured, normally by weaving the cut threads into the ground fabric. The aperture will normally be square or rectangular as it is dependent on the grain of the fabric. The remaining warp or weft threads are embellished with stitches.
Drawn thread stitches are normally stitched on a relatively open evenweave fabric.
N.B. Some authors use the term ‘drawn thread’ for what we would call pulled thread stitches (those where the threads are pulled into patterns, but not cut and withdrawn).
Some authors differentiate between removing either the warp or weft threads, and removing threads in both directions. The former is known as single open-work and the latter cut open-work. Confusingly, the latter is sometimes translated as Punto Tagliato, which is the normal translation for cutwork.
