French term

masse d’alimentation électrique

French to English Tech/Engineering Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
The subject matter is DBD cells. Any suggestions for 'masse' here?

@ Jonathan Has the translation already been submitted? As patents are usually in the pipeline for a certain period of time, it could be my proposal in the correct language direction will still arrive in time.

Thank you!

power supply plane

I first of all apologize for reading "masse d'alimentation électrique" and searching instantly for the German translation not realizing that an English translation was required. Now, a few days later, I come back to this question and see that I was wrong, but that the chosen translation is not correct in my opinion, as "power-supply ground" is not the same as "masse d’alimentation".

In electrical engineering, a ground plane is an electrically conductive surface, usually connected to electrical ground.

Is there a need to tie all power supply ground together?
If your small AC-DC power supply uses a transformer, it is always best to have a common grounding point.

This is the application note about the power supply ground loops.
:
The picture below shows a typical configuration. A sensor and the DAQ-System are supplied out by the same DC power supply (e.g. the vehicle on board network). You can see that the GND is connected from two points: The main current flows along the blue thick line (“high current path”), to the load and back. But the GND of both devices are also connected together, through the sensor output and DAQ input.

The medical standard IEC60601 notes that earthing a patient (via power supply earth connection) opens up the possibility that an unintended external voltage could be applied to the patient, causing a current to flow through the body to earth.

Unbelievable K40 power supply earth grounding
:
I'm from Belgium and here not any device is allowed to return power over the Earth grounding wire, but needs to return over the "neutral' AC wire. The reason for this is that every home needs to be protected by a differential security switch that cuts the power when it measures a difference between the positive Ac and Neutral AC wire. If power leaks in any other way to the ground, for example when you touch a live wire, the differential breaker cuts power in milliseconds

For the sake of better understanding, I would like the English translation of the awkwardly worded context "Ces éléments de support électriquement conducteurs forment la masse d'alimentation électrique" to rephrase, e.g. as follows:

These supporting electrically conductive parts constitute the power supply plane of these cells …

neutral philgoddard : This is a bit confusing, and your 'terre ou terre' reference has to be a nonsense translation from English. But 'earth/ground' is one meaning of 'masse'.
