'Lane' has to be 'checkout lane'. Is there a word for that in French other than the all-encompassing caisse?
For 'podia/um' (see images below) I could initially think of nothing better than meuble or comptoir, especially since without reading the entire patent from which the diagrams are taken, I'm not entirely sure what the 'podium' is relative to the 'checkout stand' (although I think it is possible that the checkout stand is the combination of podium (support, meuble) and the electronic wizardry of the caisse-enregistreuse with its screens, scanners, scales, card readers, etc.

Hmm. When I put a glass - preferably of beer - on a table, I don't generally think about the fact that I'm putting it on the table TOP. It's only when I've had a few too many that I try putting my glass on the table legs, with shards of glass as evidence

: I think this works. Asker's text seems to relate to the whole "lane end" unit which, at least in one supermarket I trudge weekly into, appears to consist of considerably more than a top surface, which seems sensible to me

"scaner + scale podium" refers pretty obviously ONLY to the visible top surface where you put items to scan or weight them.
same for this one:

the "podium 200" points specifically at the top surface of the whole contraption.
while "meuble/comptoir de caisse" would be the whole thing. Not exactly the same.
If I had to coin a term I would call it "la piste" ... but that's just my invention. There is probably some already existing term used by designers of retail shop furniture.

My guess is that "customer lane podia" (the whole of it) would refer to ALL the surfaces around the till itself: the surface where customers put their shopping (could be a "tapis de caisse", but not always)+ the till + followed by an area for packing.
It stands to reason that if you want to add s.t. next to the till, you would need to also redesign what's right next to it.
