French term

purs

French to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Canadian children's sci-fi book for 8-13 year old reluctant readers
There's a passage describing two characters who don't get on with the protagonist, in which it says 'Swan et Sunny sont des Alphas, des purs.' - I've had a look on Google and 'alpha pur' does seem to be a term that's used, but in some potentially dodgy incel rhetoric. I'm therefore wondering if translating 'des purs' as something like 'pure and simple' would be better, but would love some insight if anyone else knows how this term is used.
Thanks!

Another Alpha is the name of a planet, and of a race. Here's the context, from the top of page 9:

Is the book set in this world, or in another?

through and through

As in "Swan and Sonny are Alphas through and through"

I found the book (I've added the link) and see that they're from a planet called Alpha, the narrator explains how s/he isn't and that these two Alphas look down on everyone else - important information!

One among many alternatives: "100% Alpha"

Thanks! That was what I thought.

agree Mark Nathan : Or perhaps "typical Alphas". // Yes, I guess we need a bit more context.

Thanks Mark! Don't know if "typical" would work as it implies all Alphas have a superiority complex - which maybe is the case here, but maybe not = they are 'real' Alphas, born and bred.
agree Yvonne Gallagher : it would also work as "through and through Alphas"

Thanks Yvonne!
disagree Mpoma : Young people simply don't use this expression any more, ever. And this is a children's (or "young adults") text

Oh really? Not ever? So when I hear my own young people using it I'm just dreaming right? ;-)

the pure ones/true exemplars

It suggests that the characters, Swan and Sunny, are seen as quintessential or ideal types of a certain category, in this case, "Alphas."

It conveys a sense of purity in their characteristics or roles, emphasizing their embodiment of certain traits to an unadulterated degree.

I came across this article wherein there is a use of this phrase:

Apex alphas

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : It's not alpha as in alpha male.

Yeah, thanks Phil;
neutral Daryo : Might sound plausible on its own, but if you check this https://www.calameo.com/read/001698429fb993542ef52 you might see it differently.

they're proper Alphas

Given the age group of the readership, I thought this might work.

Or, they're total Alphas.
Peer comment(s):

agree Mpoma : Far more idiomatic and appropriate to the age group
