Discussion

Pundora (asker) Sep 29, 2007:
Context. Thyminfo, detailed context is hardly needed I think as it is clear already. Still, here it is:

o Bereavement leave
 3 days’ pay for immediate family (spouse, parent, guardian, child, brother, sister, grandchild)
 1 day pay for extended family ( mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandparent, aunt, uncle)
thyminfo (X) Sep 28, 2007:
Could you please give the context in which you want to use the term - the sentence if possible?

संयुक्त परिवार

This is used for joint family and if they can be taken to be similar concepts, this term can be used for extended family.

विस्तृत परिवार/विस्तारित परिवार/तीन या अधिक पीढ़ियों का परिवार

A family that includes three or more generations. Normally, that would include grandparents, their sons or daughters, and their children, as opposed to a "nuclear family," which is only a married couple and their offspring.

In view of your note, I feel that you may perhaps use करीबी परिवार/नज़दीकी परिवार for immediate family and दूर का परिवार for extended family.
