Italian term

al limite dell'imbarazzo

Italian to English Other Media / Multimedia paparazzi
Hi everyone!

I'm translating an article about paparazzi. I came across a sentence that reads:

"Spesso le situazioni riportate sono al limite dell'imbarazzo"

My translation
"Often the reported situations are at the limit of embarassment" ?

Thanks

@Phil I just imagined it was paparazzi doing things verging on the embarassing (climbing up a lamp post or something) to get a photo. But, of course, you are quite right, I could very easily be barking up the wrong lamp post.

on the verge of embarassment

It isn't nearly as common as the Italian phrase, but is nevertheless perfectly natural English IMHO.

... Poco a che fare con il significato del "embarassment" in inglese come sarebbe usato nel caso di paparazzi. Almeno penso...

Paparazzi cannot be embarassed by definition: they are the epitome of la faccia tosta. So who is getting emarassed there, the "targets"? They usually get pissed off rather than embarassed :)

agree Yarri K : it seems to me that the idea in Italian is best conveyed by this formulation
