Italian term

a fianco chiuso

Italian to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion shirt tailoring

after side seams are sewn

Often the sleeve is sewn to the body of the shirt after only the shoulder seam is sewn, thereby making it easier to sew up the sleeve seam and side seam all at once. For bespoke shirts, the two seams are not continuous so the side seams needs to also be stitched up and the sleeve is set in after this. It is more complicated but provides for a better fit.
