English Oak, Durmast Oak or privet
The Harraps 4 vol It/Eng Dictionary entry for ischio reads:
1. durmast oak (quercus sessiliflora)
2. English (or pedunculate) oak (quercus pedunculata, quercus robur)
3. (common) privet (Ligustrum vulgare)
So it seems that both the previous responses are correct. I guess you'll have to choose between oak and privet from the context. Quercus pedunculata is the English oak, raw material of the navy and definitely a native tree in Britain!

Comment: "Many thanks Jane, yours was the most comprehensive answer. Isettled for "ischio (a type of oak" as privet isn't really a tree."
