The site seems to be suffering from a dissociative identity disorder, because it calls itself either Workspree or JobLab and the text used, I assume it's Latin, also appears ipsis verbis here: https://peeplica.com and here: https://conventioncompanylimited.com. What a mess!

The next email contained this information: "We appreciate your positive response to this task, do work on this project as seen fit and to the best of your ability and the review team will handle the rest. First payment will be made after review of the initial 40% translated by you, will be done through international wire transfers/bank transfers and amount paid will depend on how well translated your work is."

As this seems like a strange payment scheme, I replied that I will need to be guaranteed a certain amount. They replied: "The funds you receive based on review would not stray far from the proposed budget, so you don't have to worry. The contract should be sent to you soon."

I guess I'll see what the contract says but yeah... definitely seems like a scam. It's just a bit confusing why they would have this strange payment model if they just wanted to steal my work or something? Does anyone have any more information? Has anyone actually completed a project for them and been paid/scammed?

I also got a "Freelance Translation Opportunity" from "[email protected]". She at least referred to the correct language pair (Eng-Swe) and my profile on a Swedish website for translators, but it still seems very unreliable. I won't do any jobs for this person.

Hi,

Same here. I was just wondering what their aim might be. So you deliver 40% and insist on payment before delivering the lot, as their dodgy contract confirms. Would there be a real client in the background that needs to be served and their scam is just not paying the translator? It should be possible to find out who the client is, otherwise their scam would be pointless without any income for them.

A useful tool website to find tracking information about sites, ip-adresses, server locations, etc. is:

The Canadian law firm website is just an Envato template with ai photos and information.

I will play along and see what happens.

To be continued.

Definitely a scam ! Wordspree, Skill Cluster portal... Dec 3, 2024

Hi everyone,

Indeed a scam. I got a request from someone from Skill Cluster Portal. I made the translation for two weeks which was quite tight.

I discovered this forum topic only afterwards...

Do not lose any time working on the translation they ask.

They say they send the money to your account, then ask you to check if received, and it appears it is on an online bank (Secure Bank Financial Corporation) pending somewhere... They ask you to insert a code to transfer the money on another bank account, ask you for an identity verification (which I did not go through), and create an account (login and password!) with the information appearing on your invoice.

To be able to transfer the money, you need to contact their customer service by chat or mail to get the code.

Last step is you need to pay a deposit (which they will allegedly reimburse) to be able to receive your payment.

The amount appearing on the false account has nothing to do with what you asked for initially by the way.

I hope this will help some of you at least.

Stay safe 😊

ritz mollema: I guess it is a psychological trick. After you complete the 40% of the job they will send an e-mail to you asking for a deposit of 200 EUR or similar amount to be able to process the payment, which will never happen of course. I think they do not really need the text to be translated. They just aim to get you to the point when you will become willing to "pay for being paid" for the job you have already completed. Very insidious... See more

I told them that is half my usual rate...

They replied today:

Dear Ana,

Thank you for your response. I understand your perspective, and I’d like to express my willingness to adjust the rate to better align with your standard fee. Your expertise and professionalism are highly valued, and I’d be happy to discuss terms that work for both of us.

Please let me know what you feel is fair, and we can move forward from there.

Looking forward to your reply.

One more case Dec 29, 2024

They have just offered me a 17.000-word job at GBP 0.5 per word.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
The name of the person who wrote to me could not be found - no hits, globally.
So, I will think twice about taking up this offer.

Received the exact same e-mail, but from Worksilo.org Feb 10

Hello,

I received the exact same e-mail, but the contact was AIYANA ODINA from worksilo.org. The same word count (22,117 words, 145 pages, £0.24 per word payment). The offer sounded too good to be true and after I didn't find anything on Blueboard about them, I accidentally found this thread.

It is evident that this is scam, but is anyone aware what their ultimate goal is?

I've got the same fishy offer but they called themselves translationreport.org.

I'm not experienced translator, so I didn't suspect anything and started working without profound checking on them. Although I had several bad gut feelings, I never listened to them. So, they even sent me the receipt of the first half of the payment wired to me. However the 'bank' (AspireOneCreditUnit they call themselves) of theirs is also a scam. They ask you to authorise first and then for deposits to sent you your money to your account, which you will never get, of course. Moreover they seem to have their own 'delivery service' (Instant courier global) to provide people with their ATM cards. However the delivery also requires those deposits you never get back.

As a result I lost not only my time but also much money... About 5000 dollars... Now I need a year of hard work to restore it. And I also have this bitter story to tell the global translators community.
