Spanish term

entrañable

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
From the same poem. Here is the context:

Quince días
sin mi vida natal
y mi gente
quince días *entrañables*
de toda mi vida

The poem is called "Un Viaje Pasajero," it's about the author's 15-day sojourn in Mexico en route from El Salvador to the US.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Discussion

Yvette Neisser Moreno (asker) May 13, 2008:
Thanks, everybody. I went with "memorable", although if I had more time I would probably try to come up with something better. Sorry for not giving further context--this stanza kind of stood on its own in the middle of the poem--but most of the suggestions with positive connotations didn't quite work because the rest of the poem described these two weeks as a time of confusion and mixed feelings, rather than one of deep joy. I love poeticizing with you all!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Remy. Your suggestion of "unforgettable" led me to "memorable", which is what I chose to use here. Very helpful."

intimate

entranable come from entranas, which literally means viscera, so I suppose it could be visceral too
Peer comment(s):

although it seems a bit odd that the author should be so delighted when leaving his/her native land, friends, etc,

American Heritage Dictionary

The poet might remember those days as having provided significant growing experiences, or brought new friends and happy moments...but we just don't know what made them "endearing" --- next to or in contrast of his nostalgic references to his homeland and people. We need to know what follows in this poem.
