Indeed. Cousins are also plain cousins, once removed, twice removed, etc.. It gives me a headache just thinking about it.

据我观察，七十年代以前出生的人，一般不会有这类的困惑。因为那是还没有一孩化。

困惑恰恰出现在80后、90后的身上。他们多数都是独生子女。没有哥哥姐姐，所以对嫂子、弟媳、姐夫、妹夫感到生疏。但他们的父母有弟弟妹妹，于是就有了叔叔伯伯、舅舅姨姨、表兄表妹等等一大堆亲戚。他们偶尔要面对这些繁杂的关系，能不困惑嘛！所以，这些烦恼是一孩政策制造出来的。

如果一孩政策实行一百年，所有的亲属关系就都简化了。祖孙三代四代都没有兄弟姐妹，除了父母、岳父母、祖父母、岳祖父母，其他亲戚关系一概消失。这些烦恼也就终于消失了。皆大欢喜？可家家都断了香火。
