brand-name bias

or just brand bias.

Also seen a few examples of "brandism" in Google (in italics) - don't think the word has caught on yet, but it might be on the way...

Thanks to mass advertising, we have brand-name bias that encourages us to buy a recognized item over a lesser-known counterpart. This is true from jeans to orange juice to medications. Sometimes well-known brands are superior, but not always. Not, for example, when it comes to prescription drugs.

branding / brand (name) loyalty

There are books on branding (22 Immutable Laws of Branding by Al and Laura Ries; Creating Brand Loyalty by Richard Czerniawski and Michael Maloney), articles about branding, seminars on branding (just got a mailing on this from Tom Peters), everyone jawing about branding - while forgetting USP and creativity and positioning and bottom-up marketing. No one speaks about a product, they speak about a brand; no one speaks about a service, they speak about a brand; no one speaks about a company, they speak about a brand.

Brand consciousness

Perfect...nothing else needed. Exactly what came to mind for me, too.

--------------------------------------------------

Brand consciousness would be more descriptive of the individual buyer in the market.

Ruths \"branding\" and Nickis \"brand-name bias\" and \"brandism\" all work equally well to express a general trend apparent in marketing. Use one of these.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Sandra OLIVER : brand consciousness in, a sense, is a positive thing. Here there is a snobbery and unawareness involved.
17 hrs
When someone says "He is very brand conscious" it is usually meant somewhat critically.
agree Refugio : I think this 'marquismo' must also involve a heightened awareness of what brands others are wearing/driving/drinking etc. This kind of brand consciousness is used to judge other people's level of success, and of course one's own.

this could be a little "free" translation (and also an adjective) but it could be an option for favoritism.

Think about describing sm who'd buy anything cause s/he like the brand)
Peer comment(s):

agree Becky Spangle : Sorry, sanlev, still stand by my answer. You actually hear people talk of being brand conscious, or brand consciousness. And it can be negative or poisitive, just as "marquismo"can
