Dutch term

Vakantiederving

Dutch to English Other Human Resources
Does anyone know what this means? It is a term in a handbook for employees. The relevant chapter is about holiday entitlement, holiday pay etc. but this term is there on its own without any further context. TIA

3 +1 untaken holiday entitlement

Richard Purdom Apr 23, 2018:
came a bit late to this one, but 'accrued' is a much neater word than 'untaken'
Kitty Brussaard Apr 19, 2018:
@Sanmar You're welcome and thank you for sharing your client's feedback on the meaning of this term. I would suggest that Michael posts his suggestions for the translation of this term (see his last entry) as an answer then so it can be added to the glossary.
Sanmar (asker) Apr 19, 2018:
The client has finally given me a bit more context: Niet opgenomen vakantiedagen worden met betaling gecompenseerd wanneer het dienstverband wordt beëindigd. Kitty and Michael, jullie begrepen dat dus goed :)
Michael Beijer Apr 18, 2018:
so maybe something like: untaken holiday entitlement
holiday(s) not yet taken
untaken holiday(s)
etc.

But (as Phil said) we'd definitely need more context before making that jump.
Kitty Brussaard Apr 18, 2018:
Re: niet-genoten vakantiedagen Dat is ook mijn eerste ingeving. In deze specifieke context (werknemershandboek) denk ik dan aan bepalingen rond uitbetaling van niet-genoten vakantiedagen bij einde dienstverband of bij overlijden.
Michael Beijer Apr 18, 2018:
a bit of googling shows that it is often used in contexts like:

– "Late en/of vroege vluchturen komen niet in aanmerking voor schadevergoeding voor vakantiederving."
– "Er is een vrij redelijke kans dat de geschillencommissie je meer toekend dan alleen de restitutie voor Royal Class, nl. ook een bedrag voor gemist comfort en vakantiederving."

(although this doesn't seem to apply to yours)

This context would seem to be something like "loss of enjoyment of holiday" in English.
Michael Beijer Apr 18, 2018:
hmm might this mean something like "niet-genoten vakantiedagen"?
philgoddard Apr 18, 2018:
It means something along the lines of loss of holiday, but it can't be "there on its own", since you tell us what the chapter is about. What does it say before and after this word?
It could be something to do with getting paid if you have to work while you're on holiday.
