Three RCTs noted a higher rate of interface-related complications with CPAP than with HFNC [16, 28, 43]. The literature regarding some of the outcomes above supports the use of NIPPV over COT in many patients. Therefore, the HFNC is preferred to COT should other NIPPV techniques fail due to interface-related issues.
