Deutsch term

Spengler

Deutsch > Englisch Technik Bauwesen/Hochbau/Tiefbau Metalwork
A (Swiss) architect's text on a construction project lists those involved in the project. This includes this company, listed as the "Spengler":

https://e-mann.ch/Spenglerei/

It seems they do "Metallbekleidungen" in general, and specifically:
Anschlussbleche für Steil und Flachdächer
Metallbedachungen
Dachkontrollen / Rinnenreinigung
Abdichtungen mit Flüssigkunststoff
Kamineinfassungen
Regenwassernutzung

Does anyone know what this would be called in UK English? This does not seem to be plumber/roofer as is the answer generally on other forums. Metalworker seems to be a more general "making things out of metal", not specifically building-related metalwork. "Architectural metalwork" seems to be a thing; can anyone corroborate if this is an equivalent to Spengler?

Many thanks!!

Discussion

Steffen Walter May 5, 2021:
Exactly See the distinction I've been trying to make earlier in this discussion.
Mair A-W (PhD) May 5, 2021:
The linked website explicitly separates (has different menu tabs for) their plumbing services (Sanitär) from the Spenglerei ...
Eleanore Strauss May 4, 2021:
Having lived in Switzerland A spengler was usually a plumber... or someone who fixed or adjusted metalwork. But in common usage Spengler was a plumber, plain and simple.
Steffen Walter May 4, 2021:
uyuni May 4, 2021:
Dann vielleicht... ...roof smith...?
Steffen Walter May 4, 2021:
uyuni May 4, 2021:
Steffen Walter May 4, 2021:
Der Beschreibung nach ... ... ist hier ein Dachspengler bzw. Bauspengler (CH + AUT) bzw. Dachklempner (DE) gemeint.
uyuni May 4, 2021:

Peter Lautz May 4, 2021:
a sheet metal worker (for the outside of buildings)

on dict.cc it says

heater and ventilation fitter

although this might not cover it entirely

Then again, I'm no expert for British English
Peer comment(s):

disagree Steffen Walter : This question is NOT about heating, ventilation, interiors etc. It specifically refers to building roofs (this trade is known as a "Dachspengler" in CH and AUT and "Dachklempner" in Germany)./Hab ich.

ok

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Many thanks everyone for all that very useful food for thought. I fear this might be one of those terms for which it is hard to find a culturally specific 'correct' equivalent; luckily the client absolved us all of any responsibility by themselves selecting "architectural metalworker", presumably because they work in architecture and this seems to encompass a similar range of responsibilities as they themselves have. In any case many thanks all!"

sheet metal worker

Peer comment(s):

disagree Steffen Walter : Far too generic because it also includes heating, cooling and ventilation systems, which are ruled out by the context of this question, which refers to a "Dachspengler" (aka "Dachklempner" in DE) installing flashings etc. on building roofs.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Steffen Walter : This scope is more generic than the context of this question, which mainly refers to/focuses on sheet metal works, claddings etc. on roofs whilst not mentioning walls, balconies, tanks, doors etc./Yes, acc. to asker but their website focuses on roofing.

roofer

Roofers typically do the following:
• Inspect problem roofs to determine the best way to repair them
• Measure roofs to calculate the quantities of materials needed
• Replace damaged or rotting joists or plywood
• Install vapor barriers or layers of insulation
• Install ventilation systems
• Install shingles, asphalt, metal, or other materials to make the roof weatherproof
• Align roofing materials with edges of the roof
• Cut roofing materials to fit around walls or vents
• Cover exposed nail or screw heads with roofing cement or caulk to prevent leakage

roof sheeter and cladder

They don't nail on tiles, so 'roofer' is too generic. They certainly don't work with tin.

"A roof sheeter or cladder fixes large weatherproof sheets of different material to roofs (sheeting) or walls (cladding)."
