phase-sequence reversal protection

in a 3-phase system the _sequence_ of phases must be correct ;)

to justify that once the phase numbers are assigned they should be adhered to in a well-designed electrical circuit is beyond the scope of kudoz.

but here is a simple example:
* let's say the 3-phase unit in question contains (1) resistance load, (2) capacitance load and (3) inductance load.
* let's assume phase 1 contains no compensation, phase 2 contains capacitance compensation and phase 3 contains inductance compensation.
* then the electrician must connect phase 1 to terminal 1, 2 to 2, and 3 to 3 since putting phases 231 / 312 on terminals 123 is incorrect.

díky!
neutral vic voskuil : not wrong, but sequence is rather redundant//redundant as in: nearly everybody uses Anton's answer in these situations. Adding sequence is being overtly correct...//and see Anton's rebuttal ;)

thanks but the sequence of phases is critical, not redundant. if the correct sequence is 123 then the incorrect ones are 132, 231, 213, 321, and 312. // pls. see my note re: anton's answer.

Wrong phase order protection

Jde o nesprávné pořadí fází a to se vyjádří slovem ORDER.

phase reversal protection

Phase order may only be normal or reversed.

To explain in more detail: there is no way to identify a given phase as "no. 1", there is only a CYCLIC order of phases, which is either 123123123... or 321321321...
When we see phase numbers on a switchboard, these are just arbitrarily assigned numbers of wires, nothing more.

neutral Pavel Blann : if there were 2 phases and the correct order was 12 then 21 would be a reversal. for a 3-phase system, this is overtly simplified. // if you put phase 3 or 2 on terminal 1 you're asking for trouble // good point, too, but such a protection is possible now
19 hrs
No, that's TOTALLY wrong. 123, 231 and 312 are ONE AND THE SAME sequence, and the opposite one is 321 = 213 = 132. // You have a point, but no protection circuit will protect against that.
