Italian term

attenuare i caratteri italiani dell'azienda

Italian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) company management
The context is post-WW1 Italy, where the company's exports are affected by the sanctions imposed on Italy due to its involvement in the war in Ethiopia, prohibiting it from exporting to certain countries.

diminish the company's Italian ownership

This is what is meant, in my opinion. So, that is what should be said, rather than beating about the bush as Italians love to do. It just doesn't sound right to my ear saying, 'attenuate the Italian traits of the company'
