Evidence of an act of endowment is given by a document called a "deed or endowment".

Basically, I'm assuming that the "dotazione" is money donated to a Foundation, which is very common in Italy. Obviously, when the money is donated a deed is drawn up because it is seldom given with no strings attached. However, a trust (much more common in the UK - National Trust) is very similar but I would hesitate to use the word trust, because it does not entail a transfer of legal title, it is different.
This Google seems to show that endowments were more popular in the past in the UK than now.

Note from asker:
Hmm interesting PHil. I did some googling of endowment and admittedly some references are indeed of times gone by. Like the idea of Trust deed, but not sure if this would create ambiguity in the document ... another definition of trust deed = A document that embodies the agreement between a lender and a borrower to transfer an interest in the borrower's land to a neutral third party, a trustee, to secure the payment of a debt by the borrower.. which isn't how we want to use the word.. hmmpfh. Think I'm going to go with endowment and discuss with internal client and see what he says.. thanks all! |

: I'm not totally convinced by this, because it gets quite a lot of Google hits, but when you look them up they don't actually contain the phrase. What do you think about "trust instrument/deed"? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trust_instrument

An "act" in international English is a formal document! (It is not necessarily an action or a legislative enactment.) http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/act "an instrument or document stating something done or transacted. "
