What's "percentage" based on?
Aug 1, 2009
Volume, number of jobs or revenue?
In any case I put less than 10%. But as I considered that "less than 10%" in terms of the three factors above, they kept changing size. (Volume is definitely greater than number of jobs, and the revenue's not bad either....)

That is a wide spread and as others have said, we do not actually know what "percentage" refers to, but the vast majority of my work has always come in through referrals from either clients or colleagues. I cannot say which is most important, but they both are.

I interpret the question as...
Aug 2, 2009
I interpret the question as meaning word of mouth referrals from other translators. If that's what it means, I'd say the answer is some small percentage. On the other hand, I would say that a fairly large percentage of my work comes through people I know or third parties (not translators) who refer someone else to me.
