No, I don't, because I studied Translation 4 years long at university, and we learned all aspects of translating and translation business.
BUT I regularly check forums to be up-to-date with new issues and technologies.
(and I regularly attend Webinars on my CAT-Tools)

This year I'm completing my MA in Literary Translation at the University of Exeter (UK) in order to specialise in the field. Just a poetry portfolio and dissertation piece left to do!
Learning aside, the course has had some good perks on the side. It's been great to get some proper analytical feedback on my translation work, we all got Trados 2009 at a student price of 100 pounds, free Trados certification (still pending) etc. And the course fees are tax deductible.

Their cost (in terms of time and money) usually outweighs their usefulness for me.
I never really like to commit in advance to anything (best laid plans of mice and men... etc) in case something else comes up in the interim, and conferences etc tend to coincide with my busy times...

I have attended a few trainings provided by some of my clients. Some of them have been good and some have been a complete waste of time. These have either been very small-scal and targeted or alternatively run as web-meetings.
The thing I have enjoyed is the international conferences I have attended in the field of translation. Some of them have been fruitful in terms of the actual content, others have provided me with new contacts and customers. My experience is that as long as you... The thing I have enjoyed is the international conferences I have attended in the field of translation. Some of them have been fruitful in terms of the actual content, others have provided me with new contacts and customers. My experience is that as long as you chose a conference with a subject matter close to your field of specialization, attend with an open mind and are willing to be active, these conferences can be well worth the time and money spent. I am actually planning to attend another conference again in early summer in Portugal. ▲ Collapse

I would love to, especially in the medical field. However, it's hard to find translation related courses / workshops of any kind in Venezuela. We have an exchange control in force so it is hard for us to register in webinars and it's expensive to travel abroad to attend international events. I will have to eventually, because I don't think that the translation related training in Venezuela will be enough to obtain the re-certification of the ATA in 2 1/2 years.

Yes, there is always something more to learn, that's why I visit forums and attend webinars.
I actually meant we did not only learn to TRANSLATE, but we also learned a lot about translation business, language professions, history of languages, accouting, prices, technical issues such as computing, terminology management and Tools.

I have been somewhat tied at home recently, but now I am planning two courses.
One on new legislation that came into force on 1 January and an update on terminology, and one on Trados Studio 2009.
Although I still look back gratefully on things I learnt in the 1970s and earlier, the world has turned through a few revolutions since then. You do not need to collect exam certificates, but you do have to keep on learning. If some instructor or lecturer has gathered the literature and set up a logical course, I attend gratefully and consider it a welcome day out and a chance for networking as well as for learning what is officially on the agenda. ▲ Collapse

Can anyone suggest any good resources informing us about upcoming courses, conferences, etc.? I'm a member of the ITI and am aware of what they have to offer, but there must be a lot of other interesting stuff going on.

I think you'll find nowhere else more training sessions than on Proz.
