Other - Travel Mar 30, 2010

I couldn't pinpoint a single most interesting project I have ever worked on, but the most interesting ones tend to be the travel guides, which are an opportunity to discover new places at the same time as earning money. My list of places to go gets ever longer!

Cosmetics Mar 30, 2010

I translated 2 cosmetics websites into my native language. They were about natural cosmetical and sometimes also medical products for mother and child. I've also learned a lot about babies while doing these. So... now, the only thing missing is the baby

Very interesting and pleasant, I think I would have done it for free too (just joking).

Many academic ones Mar 30, 2010

These are probably the ones I find most stimulating (history of the textile industry, post-mortem family inventories...) And the tourism/gastronomic ones are also interesting.

Whatever rings your bell!

environment/ecology Mar 30, 2010

I chose Technical although the reports I translated were scientific. All about geology, hydrogeology, nature and biodiversity, coastal marine waters... very interesting stuff. I almost want to become a geologist or marine biologist now!

Maintenance manuals for paper calenders Mar 30, 2010

How sad.
I didn't know about these massive machines and it was interesting to learn what is involved in making a silly A4 sheet look good: very high pressures, very heavy rolls, very fast rotating equipment, very fine sensing, very thorough safety and overall very lethal and precise stuff.
A recent translation of a yo-yo trick book was quite fun too.

Academic2 Mar 30, 2010

Like Noni, I've also found the academic translations the most interesting. I just finished one on the right to housing. It was thought provoking and intellectually stimulating.

Videogames and an American sitcom Mar 30, 2010

1) A tie between a) a few small computer games I localized all on my own and b) an FPS localized into English, with two sequels, on which I collaborated with wonderful colleagues.

2) "Married... with Children" which I translated but not for voice-over: the title was adapted and completely re-filmed with Russian actors in a Russian setting. Fascinating work... too bad the end result is crap and my TV is now flooded with reruns!

Like Alexandra, I'm having so much fun doing it I think I might have done it just for the fun of it . . . for free (but, alas, just joking. You can't pay the rent with fun). Also, I translated a website on which you can register your favorite word (in Dutch or English): www.ilovethatword.com or http://mijneigenwoord.nl/index.php?id=1&lng=NL

That was fun to do, too.
