I work on the sofa! But why would you change your office desk or chair every year?

I don't get the question Dec 12, 2010

I voted 'No' like Mary, but I don't understand the real intention behind this question. Is it because these office equipments are tax-deductible? If so, I would buy a Persian carpet to lay under my feet, buy a priceless chair and a table to work on every year dating back to the Ming dynasty.

They are (tax deductible) here, with depreciation over 10 years for office furniture, 3 years (instead of 5 not so long ago) for computers. I do not think the tax administration would let you get away with a Persian carpet though

I voted no, because my chairs last longer than just one year.

No but desk/office chair is importantisimo.. Dec 12, 2010

I change it if its damaged. Our job is sitting, translating, writing... sitting, sitting, sitting, sitting, sitting... Therefore a comfortable chair is very very veri important i think.

Maybe most important home office tool!

Why would/should anybody buy a new chair every year? `Cause it's tax deductible? Why replace a good and comfortable chair?

Like Yasumoto I don't get it.

Why would I want to do that? Dec 12, 2010

It would be a complete waste to buy a new chair just for the sake of it, so why anyone would want to do that is quite beyond me.

I am strongly tempted to replace my chair (which I have had for 2 years now) with a more comfortable one. The one I currently have is not really comfortable if you have to sit on it for hours on end.

Whatever for? Dec 12, 2010

It is in fact a top-quality office chair and very comfortable. It was designed to last for many years. It was not cheap!

All the adjustments work, and I don't have backache or other ergonomic problems.

Replacing it would be a waste of time and money and resources - it is not entirely recyclable.

I hope it will last for many years yet!

Any type of tax reduction is a plus for us! Spend the money on ourselves and pass on the old stuff to relatives

All a question as to if you can afford it?

After a 5 year relationship with my chair, I realy do need a new one now though. My desk will stay there until it falls apart or I refurbish my office in a different system, but that wont be happening for a while.

I have a wonderful and very healthy chair so no, I will certainly not buy a new one unless this one is damaged beyond repair. However, I recommend everyone to get a really good chair and desk, it is vital for your health!

I used to Dec 12, 2010

For years I struggled to find a comfortable chair and kept buying one after another. Now I have a padded dining-room chair from IKEA and it's perfect. I've had it for4 years and I need to change it but only because it's worn out.

Only one problem: it's so comfortable and supportive in the right places that I often find myself nodding off.

Maybe if I tell the tax authorities that I need the Persian carpet to place my notebook instead on a hard wooden floor?

I must admit that I've not changed it for ages but it's a proper office chair - that's good! Was just noisy recently so I oiled it myself I'll keep it for now

Hmmm a nice persian carpet and a lovely Ming Dynasty vase to complement my working environment would be lovely ... but I don't think that Basingstoke Tax Office would agree They're so backward p

The same desk for the last 25 years, but I changed my chair recently (2/3 years ago) for a more comfortable one...

I alternate between desk and sofa Dec 12, 2010

I mostly sit on the sofa with my laptop...sometimes at the desk but it's no longer needed. The desk is now for storage. It's also must less of a pain in the neck, literally...sitting at a desk aggravated a neck problem!
