laptop screen | Feb 28, 2012 |
I am using a VAIO with 15.5" screen and I must say I am totally satisfied. It's a wide screen and the quality of the view is very good. I would think of migrating to a MacBookPro, but it doesn't fit my demands for software. So I am thinking about sony's Z-series. It has only 13" screen, but I am sure it'll be OK. We'll see though =)

No idea I'm afraid! So much for my technological awareness. "Smallish" would be my answer to "how big is your screen"?
It's great. I've had this arrangement for 4 years now. I can display my source and target texts side by side.
I could only recommend using dual screens. I would argue that having a huge screen is less important than having two. I use two 23'' and it is very comfortable.

and I hate having to work on my 18" laptop when I am on the go. I have 2 27 in monitors (or TV´s) and one 22 inch linked to my main computer. I find or am the opinion that we have to work with this equipment every day (sometims 14 hours a day) and the bigger the screen, the better. And the more screens you have, you have more space for ref stuff and I frequently have Across and Studio 2011 open at the same time. Can only recommend larger screeens / monitors

I use three monitors and it is truly fantastic for productivity. I have a 27" iMac as my main monitor, and two 19" monitors mounted above it (making a sort of "T" shape with my screens). I have my source and target documents on the 27" iMac and then use the top-right monitor for reference material and my email programme, and the left-hand monitor for my terminology database and web reference sources. To be fair, the 17 inch is good enough for me, and it's 18 months old and the batteries still work! Any bigger and it wouldn't fit on my lap!

During my career as a freelance translator I have gone from 15.5' to 19' and then from 19' to 24'. I must say I find it great to work on my 24' Vaio, both with regard to my eyes and posture. However, I still have a 15.5' laptop that I occasionally use when I work from a different location. There is a big difference.
