Informal, comfortable Mar 22, 2013

I'd love to work in my pajamas, but that's not really an option. I have to walk my dogs first thing in the morning, and I live is a very sociable neighborhood where people drop in unexpectedly.

Yet another advantage of working at home Mar 22, 2013

When I used to go out to work in an office environment I spent a small fortune on dry cleaning, but that ended the day I started working at home.
I do miss the morning ritual of choosing what tie to wear, though.

Comfy clothes, of course! Mar 22, 2013

But! you still need to keep one smart outfit in case called on to meet a client in person, or turn up somewhere businessy!!!

Otherwise PANIC when you find you have let things slip so much that you have "LITERALLY NOTHING TO WEAR"!!

Not that this has ever happened to me of course.........

It depends Mar 22, 2013

It greatly depends on 2 factors. When returning from an appointment I keep on my "dress clothes", perhaps being too "lazy" to change. When the day starts off with work, then I just wear whatever I feel like wearing, and yes, sometimes it's the good ol' nighty.

Informal, comfortable clothing - Almost always
Pajamas - NEVER
Formal - in case I need to go out during the day

I answered informal, comfortable clothing Mar 22, 2013

but, in truth, it depends:

Pajamas - for the 1st hour or so after waking up
Informal, comfortable clothing - for the rest of the day
Formal clothing - if I have to go out...

Winter: Jeans, several layers of decent, neat long sleeve T-shirts and jerseys/casual jacket, thick socks and the essential sheepskin slippers. I wrap all of the above in a blanket. We have no central heating, and ceramic-tile floors. If I go out, I lose the blanket, and put on my boots.

Summer: Skimpy vests, and sarongs or shorts; footwear only if I leave the desk. If I go out, I force myself to wear a brassière.... See more

The first 30 mins in front of the computer before my shower: tracksuit/whatever passes for pajamas. Whilst dressed thus, I am busy aligning my mind for the rest of the day and opening up the files I will be working on once fresh and clean. Much more important than the contents of my wardrobe!

... which this week seems to include pajamas...

It's against my principles, and I really prefer to have a more sensible t-shirt. The last few days I have somehow been achieving 150 per cent of my usual output, and I take my bath when I need the first break in the day!

It used to be a sure way of knowing the doorbell would ring: the postman would have a package, a certain religious group turn up at this time of year with pamphlets... and someone would want a donation for

Now I have a retired husband to ward them off... they seem to have stopped coming and I don't miss them.

OK, coffee consumed. I hope some good colleagues are enjoying the three jobs I've already turned down this morning. I'll translate a few hundred more words before bathtime!

Informal + N/A once :D Mar 22, 2013

I wear informal clothes, unless I have meetings or if I have an interpreting assignment.
I did work in a triathlon suit once, though
I had to finish a few urgent sentences for my regular client when I got back from the race (he needed that in two hours).

Each sip of coffee and every cigarette turns into a major nuisance.

An anecdote:

Back at my former employer in Germany we were supposed to maintain a top-notch business professional look at all times because there were clients in the building at all times. Then there was this hot summer night in late summer, the air conditioning didn't work, it was close to midnight. I was finishing my work for my presentation the next day. Assuming that I had the entire building all to myself at this ungodly hour, I had pretty much undressed, including pulling up my skirt all the way up to my hips so I wouldn't sweat into this dry cleaning-only piece. With this kind of attire and barefoot I was on my way to the color printer room when the door to the conference room opened - and I was met by both my bosses followed by an entire client delegation. One of those precious moments in my life when I wished I could drop dead or something...

I usually wear sweat pants and a T-Shirt during the day. Comfortable clothing is important.
