However, I do have a fully functional backup PC in my spare room, which visitors are welcome to use. Mostly I just have it tuned to BBC radio in the background.
After the COVID lockdown, a translator friend bought a caravan and parked it in my garden so that she could escape the city occasionally. She is welcome to use the PC in the spare room, and occasionally does so, but usually prefers to work on her laptop in the caravan.

I need my own space to work. I have a lovely office at the back of my apartment with everything I need. It’s very calm and quiet overlooking the garden terrace of the hotel next to me.

I have a small room set up as my study from which I work. I have my desk and chair where I spend much of the day. In the opposite corner is a large plush chair where my wife sits and spends her life on Instagram. She has a rare ability of picking the exact moments when I need to concentrate on work the most and not be interrupted to jump out of the chair to show me some dancing frog or someone doing a cartwheel off of a pier into a pond.

She will spend the entire day there in that chair. When I am done work for the day, I get to enjoy a messy house and having to spend money on take-away or restaurant meals because she hasn't prepared anything.

My office (in my house) is also the printer room, so whenever any of my household members want to print something, they come into the office to operate the printer. My office (in my house) is also the printer room, so whenever any of my household members want to print something, they come into the office to operate the printer. The room that my office is in, was intended by the builder to be the master bedroom, so it's quite roomy, and therefore also used as the house's main store room (loads of cupboards), so whenever anyone wants to get something, they come into the office. Since I'm always facing the computer screen (and the wall behind it), I don't see the trash building up behind me, and it doesn't bother me. I used to have a different room in our house as the "office" which was exclusively my office, but I like this current room better (more sunlight, more interesting view). There is an extra desk in my office, which could be used by the missus (but she prefers to use the lounge as her office).

I find it very difficult to concentrate on my work if there are other people in the room, though, so I'm glad that I'm in a room that is not very inviting for other household members.

In my previous house, I used to have a desk in the bedroom, which made it difficult to work late at night (I had to get a quieter keyboard and refrain from speaking the translation out loud while typing it). Before that, I used to work at the dinner table, which for some reason didn't bother me (even though it was same room as the television and loud computer games used by the children). Headphones did the trick.

I was homeless for about 12 months, some time during which time I stayed with my parents-in-law, and my "office" was the kitchen table. There were always people moving around in the kitchen/lounge and the television was always on (visible to me right behind the computer screen), and I found it very difficult to work there... although as with any situation, one gets used to it.

Home office Nov 7, 2022

My boyfriend and I each have a desk in our home office (which doubles as a guest room).
It used to be my office, until Covid hit and he had to work from home too. He now works from home 3-4 days a week. We both enjoy the company, although we mostly sit silently typing away until it is time for coffee, lunch or tea.

No, but actually yes Nov 7, 2022

My office/work area is a fairly large basement hobby room (this was one of my must-haves during our house-hunting years). I use it alone when working, but it also serves as a gaming and music room when I have friends over, so we don't have to bother my wife.

Women, eh? Can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

Maybe she’s just waiting for her housekeeping money but is too afraid to ask?

A use a downstairs bedroom with 2 skylights and a view of a greenbelt. Bookcases on all walls, though I use the books less and less. Right now I am in the midst of a huge sorting job, or I would attach and picture.

I have my desk in a corner of the living room. It's a strategic location, from which I can see anyone coming in or going out of the house and garden, upstairs and downstairs. I also get a splendid view of my favourite rose bush. Not at home right now so I'm sorry I can't post a photo of the late autumn blooms.
I could easily convert an unused bedroom but I don't want to be shut away, and I have the dog to keep me company in the living room (he's not allowed upstairs so he wouldn't come to

I could easily convert an unused bedroom but I don't want to be shut away, and I have the dog to keep me company in the living room (he's not allowed upstairs so he wouldn't come to a converted bedroom). Also, if I were upstairs, it'd be more of a pain to answer the doorbell and get my coffee, meals and snacks.
I'm alone all day so the few times others come in and out it's more of a welcome distraction than a nuisance.

Tom, I don't believe you, there's no sign of a cat anywhere. Unless s/he's on the couch, hiding behind the armrest there?
