CD ROM dictionary fails to start Thread poster: Norbert Hermann

One of the CDs I carry with me most of the time fails to start. Message \'start file damaged\'. Is there a solution or would I have to get a new one.
Thanks

Even CDs are not unwearable, and therefor the file may by possibly physically damaged. Try this CD with another CD-ROM, but I have not much hope that it will work.
Do you have a backup of this CD? It could be your help.

Whenever I suspect a CD ROM to be defective, I try to copy it to the hard disk. If there is a problem with a file, an error message will come up. And I always try to open the CD ROM on another computer before blaming the CD ROM - there is a good chance that it\'s the CD ROM drive, not the CD ROM. | | |
I also had this problem in the past, therefore I always decided to make a backup copy of all dictionaries as soon as I buy them. However, of one of these CD I made twice an exact backup copy, but it always failed to start showing an error message. Is it possible, since it is an exact copy? Has anybody else experienced this beahaviour?
Thank you

your CD might be copy-protected. Some utilities can bypass selected copy protection methods. Look at PC-Magazines for articles on copying copy-protected CDs. The topic is to extensive to be discussed here. Best regards Andrzej | | | your answers | Jan 19, 2003 |
Thanks everybody,
I will follow it up.
