Only a). I can't understand why anyone would select the answer and then not grade it themselves, it doesn't make any sense.
Always a) never b) | Jun 15, 2009 |
Much as I respect many of the members and users of this site, I never know which of them are on line at any given moment.

Never b) I have always waited 24 hours (have to practice what you preach) and I wouldn't want to insult anyone that has helped me by choosing b.
Don't really see any logic behind

Never b) I don't see the point in option b... I'm going to read that other thread!
B is simply daft | Jun 15, 2009 |
I couldn't take that option seriously if I wanted to. "A" is the only way.
I would choose A | Jun 15, 2009 |
I would choose A - in fact I do wait 24 hours most of the time. Why would I chose B, where a robot does the grading with an algorithm that is faulty? (See the other thread about the description, especially what happens if two answers got the same number of agrees.) Katalin

Not sure what purpose 'B' would serve. If I want the community to choose, I don't need to bother closing the question, do I? I just leave it, and it will eventually be closed and points will be awarded. (Or am I wrong about this?)

B is just stupid. "The community" in this case happens to be the sum of 1) the degree of confidence the answerer had in his or her answer, which may be perfectly right or totally wrong + 2) how many people happened to answer the question and agree with a given answerer, compared to how many people happened to agree with other answers. This is not a "community." Best answers are not determined by a "democratic vote" among 4-5 people, who may or may not be native speakers of either of the languages concerned, may or may not have any knowledge in the subject matter, may or may not like or dislike the answerer, and may or may not have gotten up on the wrong side of bed that morning. The whole idea of b should just be dropped. ▲ Collapse

a) should be the default, if not obligatory, option b) useless, I am afraid

I always wait at leat 24 h before closing a question I'd never use b - how can a community possibly know which answer was the most helpful to me?
No change for users who wait at least 24 hours before grading | Jun 15, 2009 |
For those who always wait 24 hours before grading, the new feature changes nothing (in fact, it is only visible if you try to grade your question in the first 24 hours after asking). For these people there is no option between a and b, as presented in this thread, it is just grading as usual. Regards, Enrique
The question is clearly stated in the initial posting | Jun 15, 2009 |
Enrique, I don't understand your posting. The initial thread-opener is pretty clear, IMHO: This new implementation offers two choices to the asker who tries to close a question less than 24 hours after posting it (bold emphasis is mine) In other words, Attila asked: if you were the asker and if you wanted to close a question before the 24 hours is over, and at that point were presented these two choices by the system, what would you choose? What would YOU choose, Enrique?
