A certificate stating that you have passed one or two of the papers.

Hi All! I still haven't received my results although I only live in Croydon...Should have been here on Tuesday 11 May! The Royal Mail must have lost it because IOL confirmed to me they'd sent it. Anyway, I rang my centre and they told me I'd passsed all three papers! But I really need to have it in writing...

Congratulations to all of you who have passed and good luck to those who don't know yet!

Got it too May 18, 2010

I got my results yesterday too. One pass and two merits (English to Spanish)

Before receiving IoL's mail I really had my doubts about the outcome, specially because I didn´t have a lot of time to prepare the exams in January and before (but I thoroughly read all of your posts about the matter, even though I didn´t participate in the discussions. seeing the marked papers May 19, 2010

Hi all
Well done to those who passed, unfortunately letter of credit for me too so I'll be sitting again next year.
Clearly , it would be really helpful to see the marked papers - I rung the IOL and this is not possible unless you follow the re-marking procedure. I am not contesting the fact that I didn't do well enough to pass all the papers, I'd just like to know where I went wrong? Apparently, if you pay (yes, more expense) for the re-mark, you get some feedback on your exam paper

Apparently, if you pay (yes, more expense) for the re-mark, you get some feedback on your exam paper. weighing up the cost, I think it's better to just re-sit the modules next year. Like Tomas, I recieved a merit for one paper, so I'm sort of ruling out errors of style, grammar etc, and working along the lines that my mistakes were more a question of innapropriate 'specialised vocabulary'. However, how to improve on this I'm not sure. Maybe it's just a case of having more dictionaries!!!
Again, well done to those lucky ones that passed, and it would be great to here from anyone that has sat the exam a second time to hear how they prepared for it.
Regards
Lisa

Go for a re-mark May 19, 2010

Well, I had two cases of dictionaries with me, so it was very probably not a matter of dictionaries... I will definitely go for a re-mark, since I really want to see what went wrong. There is no other better way of improvement. I hope their report is specific enough instead of going for a "I did not like your style" or something...

Exam preparation May 19, 2010

Hello,
I've been following this forum as well, waiting to find out how my exam went along with everyone else.

In any case, Lisa mentioned preparation for next year. Even if you cannot see these specific papers that you did on the exam, I think it is help

In any case, Lisa mentioned preparation for next year. Even if you cannot see these specific papers that you did on the exam, I think it is helpful to do a preparation course in which you can practice on papers from other years, and receive constructive comments from a tutor.

I did the distance learning preparation course through Words Language Services in Ireland, which I found on the IoL's website. I had my own tutor who marked my papers (there were 8 in all) and gave me comments on how to improve. The course does not have fixed dates, so you can do the papers when you have time. I thought this was good practice, because, as in any exam, it is easier once you're comfortable with the format and time limit.

Good luck!

Liz

exam preparation May 19, 2010

Hi Elizabeth
Thanks for your comments. I actually did prepare the exam with City University, a similar sort of thing to The WLS, and was encouraged by my tutor to sit all three papers. I do think it's good practice, but it didn't give you any hard and fast rules. Maybe I'll sign up for the last module in September.
Well done to you though
Lisa

re-mark May 19, 2010

Hi Tomas
Yes, you're right about it being the best way to improve - I just don't like the idea of contesting the results. Have you had a look at the breakdown of the marking criteria? it's pretty complex, and you need to obtain a certain percentage in each aspect of the marking criteria to get an overall pass. So that means you could get 100% in two aspects and not enough in the third.
Well, let me know how you get on.
regards
Lisa

Has anybody received their DipTrans results yet? I'm worried that they haven't changed my address and the letter was posted to my previous address.

Hi,

It was announced on the CIoL's website today that the results will be posted this coming Friday. So you will hopefully receive your results early next week.

Thanks for letting me know. They must have put it this afternoon because I checked in the morning and there wasn't anything about that.
