Hey guys, I received a message this morning (Yes, on a saturday morning) via a profile on ProZ for an "article translation project". The person is named Leonardo Greco. After checking their profile, I notice they claim to be in Germany, and their profile on ProZ has been created this month (July 2023).. See more Hey guys, I received a message this morning (Yes, on a saturday morning) via a profile on ProZ for an "article translation project". The person is named Leonardo Greco. After checking their profile, I notice they claim to be in Germany, and their profile on ProZ has been created this month (July 2023).. Answering their email, they got back to me with a @gmail.com address, claiming to be project manager for Adecco (super weird), contacting me for a big project for the client ListVerse. Sent me a job detail, a google doc of the contract to sign and send back... Did not even ask for a test, no NDA... They wanted to me to start translating 2 articles, and they asked me to share my bank details, and I would need to claim expenses for their internal software (Ovizen is the name of the software) that I would need to upload the articles. I tried finding them on LinkedIn, in vain. I got back to ProZ and their profile does not exist anymore. I decided then to dig in more and call them out, telling them that I would need a licence to access their software, that they contacted me via a gmail address, that I wanted to have proof of their identity via LinkedIn, and that I found suspicious to ask me to work without even waiting for me to send the contract back. To what our dear Leonardo replied that they sent me an official email, and that I had to check in my spam. I did receive an email yes, from [email protected], but Gmail warned me saying that the message was not authenticated, hence the reason why it ended in my spam folder. All those red flags stacking up, I obviously did not send any contract or information about myself, and I will obviously not start working on this translation project. I just wanted to know if other people experienced the same recently. That's a very fishy situation and I do not know if Adecco can actually do something against scammers who use their domain and identity.... Thanks a lot! ▲ Collapse | | | | Natalie Poland Local time: 14:15 Member (2002) English to Russian + ... MODERATOR SITE LOCALIZER
If you are talking about a 'Leonardo Greco', the profile has been removed - it was a scammer whose initial IP was Bangladesh. | | | The same happened to me today! | Jul 8, 2023 |
He is a scammer for sure and not among those more intelligent... Easy to detect...

Among other criteria, one mistake gives him away as a scammer. No agency will ever reveal their client's name to a translator, let alone to one with whom they've never worked before. Indeed, he's not a very smart scammer.

I come to believe there are newbies amongst scammers as well... 😉
Adding to everything that has been said so far, I also wonder why Adecco would be interested in publishing articles on Listverse, a platform specialised in providing lists with fascinating, bizarre and obscure facts which, moreover, seems to me to only publish articles in English. https://listverse.com/write-get-paid/
Look what I found on the Adecco website: It has been brought to our attention that the ADECCO name and trademark has been used in several countries by persons who are in no way related to the Adecco Group. These persons place job adverts on general market websites using the name 'Adecco' without our permission. https://www.adecco.co.uk/online-security/

Very suspicious. I agree with Lucie Genot. Seemed ok at first, but he was insisting on my collaboration even when I wrote I would be on holidays. They only wish to get your ID details and bank details Careful everyone! | | | Lieven Malaise Belgium Local time: 14:15 Member (2020) French to Dutch + ...
I received two emails from this person on July 8th. The emails stated: "Are you available for article translation job?". That's it. It boggles my mind that people even consider to reply to this type of obvious fake nonsense. | | | Jörgen Winther Sweden Local time: 14:15 Member (2023) English to Danish + ... I have had a dialog with Leonardo and when I told him that I didn't trust his identity, he sent me "the official invitation" from [email protected] as proof. However, checking the exact contents of that email revealed that it was sent from a spoofing service - which is such a website that lets you send emails that appear to be from anyone you like. "... I do not think that it really matters that "people even consider to reply to this type of obvious fake nonsense", what matters is that we fight against all the fake ads out there, not to be scared that every person who approaches us for a project is a scammer......... And it was genuine, and I worked for them for a while. Therefore, I wanted to at least check out what this new one was all about. So, that's my excuse
