Hello,
I am a new brand user of CAT tools.
Can I download more than one kind of CAT tools to my PC, e.g. wordfast classic and wordfast Pro at the same time?
If I do so, will it cause any problem? | | | esperantisto Local time: 09:26 Member (2006) uit Engels in Russies + ... SITE LOCALIZER
Wordfast Classic and Pro are two totally different programs. They only share a common trademark and a common translation memory format. Thus, no problem with having them both in your system. | | | Wordfast Classic & Pro together | Jan 28, 2013 |
There is no problem in installing both of them, as Wf Pro is a standalone product and Wf Classic an MS Word add-on.
You can open both of them and work in them at the same time (if some complex project happens) - just be careful: do not edit the same TM and glossary in both of them at the same time (just in one after another if needed)!
Good luck!

You can’t edit the same glossary in both, as WFP can only import WFC glossaries, but converts them into another format. | |

Dear Zamzam,
You can install both Wordfast Classic and Wordfast Pro on the same machine.
I hope this video gives you some tips about how to use Wordfast Classic:

If you mainly translate MS Word documents, I highly recommend WF Classic. You can find a detailed guide on my blog in Arabic about how to use Wordfast Classic.

I appreciate your responses.
I have installed Wordfast Classic and all materials related to it from http://www.wordfast.com/products_wordfast_pro.html.
I have problems with it.
I cannot go ahead.
I want to try other CAT tools.
What is your advice? | | |
Wordfast Classic is a single file (wordfast.dot), and it is hosted at wordfast.net, not wordfast.com (wordfast.com is where you can find Wordfast Pro).
You don't need any other "materials" in order to use Wordfast Classic, but you do need to install it successfully. You had the "mouse paralysis" problem: did you manage to solve it? We still don't know what version of Office you are using. Did you try to delete normal.dot(m), as suggested?

You have problems with what: Classic, Pro, both? What kind of problems, specifically?

You can install other tools on your computer, but you may want to go to the bottom of your problems with Wordfast first. It is hard to provide additional suggestions given the scarcity of information about your setup and about the problems you're having. | | | Zamzam Bayian Saoedi-Arabië Local time: 09:26 uit Arabies in Engels + ... Thanks for your response.
I am sorry; to be precise I downloaded Wordfast Calssic from

What I mean by all needed materials is user guide and videos to know how to use Wordfast Classic.
http://wordfast.net/index.php?whichpage=video&lang=engb (Wordfast Video Training Sessions)
I installed Wordfast Classic successfully.
The problems I encountered:
1) Mouse paralysis: I failed to solve it; therefore, I removed Wordfast Calssic from my PC.
2) I re-downloaded it, and then I encounter another problem i.e. Word stops working (I use Word Office 2010, Windows 7).
I have not yet downloaded Wordfast Pro from
http://www.wordfast.com/products_wordfast_pro.html
I want to download it, but before doing so, I seek advice about other Cat tools because I am a new user of them.
As you said, I should first go the bottom of my problems with Wordfast first but I do not how to do so.
This is my first experience, and I want to get the best of your professional expertise.
Thanks ▲ Collapse | |

Do you have Bluetooth on your computer? The symptoms you describe may point to an older, buggy Bluetooth driver. If you have a 'Send to Bluetooth icon' under the Add-ins tab, or menu option under the 'File' menu, this could be the cause of your problem with Wordfast Classic. The solution is to uninstall Bluetooth, via Windows' Control Panel. You can reinstall a newer, bugless driver later on if you need Bluetooth.
Well, Wordfast Pro would be another CAT tool (it's a separate program from Wordfast Classic, although they can use the same TM's). If you want to have a look at free or inexpensive CAT tools, see the videos I made about five different tools:

Hello,
Dominique Pivard
I can say nothing but thank you. I know it is not enough but it is what I can do.
I will try your suggestions, and see how things will go.

We still don't know what your problems are.
You mentioned "mouse paralysis": what kind of mouse are you using? Is it some kind of fancy wireless Logitech mouse, or just a regular USB one? If you have a "fancy" mouse, have you tried connecting a "regular" one?
I asked about Bluetooth: is your computer Bluetooth-enabled or not?
Is your copy of Office 2010 the (infamous) "Click-to-Run" version?
