This is in the context of a presentation about a leading brand and the difference between "marcas de distribuidor" and "marcas de fabricante"... the presentation refers to the mark that the packaging bears:

"Marca Única - no fabricamos para otras marcas"

In the UK, this has been a marketing approach used by Kelloggs and other brands.

Is there a common equivalent for "marca única" in English - "sole brand" and "only barnd" don't ring any bells with me, and nor do they Google well...

Does anyone know please?

Thanks for that.
Yes, in UK English, we tend to say "own label" rather than "private label" which is more US I think).
I thinik I'll probably end up with something longer than two words for "marca única" as I'm struggling to think of something snappy at the moment!

All distribution chains sell products under their own brand names. Some of these products are made by well known manufacturers, others are made by secondary or even lesser manufacturers. All have to pass customer acceptance tests. Some manufacturers —major or not— who refuse to enter the low-margin, high volume, no added- value process, try to reinforce their brand image by stating that they do not manufacture for other brands. (This is sweet because none of the best manufacture to their own standards for distribution brands and distributors are only interested in acceptance values, not intrinsic quality (should such a thing really exist). By doing so they hope to stress that their product, its quality and the satisfaction it provides, can only be obtained by buying the original brand itself. What did they use to say when I was a boy… “Accept no substitutes”? Of course, as distributor brands acquire attributes of quality and significance, they gradually begin to evolve into brands in their own right, which is happening right now…

PS the other advantage of "unique brand" is that nobody could accuse me of misinterpreting the original text, since "unique " is a good translation for único"...

I feel bad rejecting Michael's "executive brand" and all the agrees he got, But, as someone else said, it sounded too much of an "exclusive brand, as in exclusivity meaning up-market, and his references suggested that too. What I needed was something that conveyed the fact that this brand can only be got here through this supplier. Many thanks everyone, especially Peter!"

I think it is as simply as that - 'own or private brand labels' and 'brand labels'.

IMHO, 'exclusive brand' sounds like a brand available exclusively in one shop chain.

You could prefix 'main', 'big', 'national', 'international' and so on.

Like "Hacendado" in Spain's Mercadona chain. La marca propia de una empresa. The product is usually the same, bought directly from the manufacturers, for example Danone yougurts, which cost around twice as much as the Hacendado brand, although the content is the same.
