čeština term

podvržené dítě

čeština -> angličtina Umění/literatura Poezie & literatura
two americans are travelling in czechoslovakia, they are strolling in a town, and children are watching them from behind a church wall.

"they (children) stood just beyondthe gates, a dozen heads peeking over the low wall. i could hear them babbling in Czech, a phrase that sounded like podvržené dítě popping up like the leitmotif of their clattering song..."

later on, when the man confronts one those kids, she tells that he is a changeling/ghosts-like creature - if that really matters.

Elf-child

If you prefer UK English, it could also be an elf-child. Usually a child given to parents instead of their own, stolen by the elves.
also Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the term in The Scarlet letter.

But for practical purpose and clarity using "changeling" might be easier.
