Bio

I lived in Germany (Goettingen, Munich, Cologne, Konstanz, Berlin) until I was 32. Then I moved to the US to pursue a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago (I received my degree in 2000 and published my thesis as a book in 2005 ("Rethinking the Uncanny"). I have lived in Chicago ever since.

I started translating and interpreting in 1990. I have translated documents and web pages. As a holder of advanced degrees from
both German and American universities and a life-long interest in the sciences, I have acquainted myself
with a broad range of sectors, such as in the CNC-machining. My experience as an academic allows me to acquaint myself with topics outside my area of expertise quickly.

I have also worked as a voice-over talent mostly for German scripts, but also some English language recordings. I am familiar with subtitling and dubbing and understand the constraints of timing when moving from one language to the other.

One special area of expertise (not listed as a choice) is transcribing German handwriting (Sütterlin).
